OPTIONAL PAINT COLORS
You can use other colors if you like — I often do. Depending on the painting, I may add:
Permanent Rose
Cadmium Orange
Cobalt Blue
Dioxizine Purple
Burnt Umber (Warms up greens for painting landscapes)
Prussian Blue (I like this blue because it is almost black.)
CANVAS Bring a variety if canvases of different sizes/toned ground so you can select the one that goes best with subject.
BRUSHES A variety of sizes, but mainly large ones. I like flats, but whatever you are comfortable with. Simmons is a good brand and is readily available at Michaels.
PALETTE KNIFE The one I have found works best is about the size and shape of an arrowhead. The more flexible and “flimsy” the metal, the better. (The plastic ones are terrible.)
OTHER
Odorless Turpenoid or Gamsol
Blue Shop Towels (from Home Depot) or other absorbent Paper Towels
Palette – I recommend a Masterson Palette Box (It’s a white plastic box with a blue lid available at Michael’s. I think it says it’s for watercolorists, so don’t let that throw you off.) Put a thick piece of 12″x16″ glass inside and you’ve got a great palette that can travel well.
Window scraper to clean the glass palette.
Color Wheel
Optional: Camera
